PROJECT: Dredging – Goonyella RS2
SCOPE OF WORK:
Maxitool Australia was engaged to desilt the RS2 dam which is the first in a series of return water dams for the Goonyella Riverside CHPP operations.
CHALLENGES FACED:
Due to a lack of effective maintenance in the past, the RS2 Dam was so full that silt was making its way into clean water dams downstream. The capacity of RS2 was reduced to approximately 20% of its as-built design with reed growth taking over a vast majority of the dam.
ACHIEVEMENTS/OUTCOMES:
Maxitool Australia used our full stainless-steel dredge with an in-pond anchoring system and pumped the material to the tailings dam some distance away using one of our slurry booster pumps. With some pre-planning and weed control, we were able to also remove most of the reeds in the pond. Maxitool Australia was able to complete this project within the budgeted three-month period and returned approximately 80% of the dam’s capacity back to site.
